第一项伟在的发明是一个现今都还非常重要的发明，那就是车轮。车轮使携带重物及长途旅行更容易。在它被发明后的四百年内，几乎再没有象它一样有影响力的发明了。然而在十九世纪初期，这个世界开始发生了变化，世界上几乎没有未知的土地剩下了。人们不必再去探索更多，取而代之的是，他们开始工作以使生活变得更美好。在19世纪下半叶，有了很多更伟大的发明，其中有摄像机，电灯和收音机，这些发明全部成为我们生活的重要部分。
 二十世纪的初叶见证了更多的伟大发明。譬如1909年的直升飞机，1926年的有声电影，1928年的电脑，还有1930年的喷气式飞机。同时它也是一些新材料被制成的年代。1935年尼龙问世了，它改变了人们所穿衣服的种类。20世纪中叶也带来了帮助人们克服疾病的新方法。这此方法很有效，他们使人们更健康同时也使人们活得更长久。到19世纪60年代为止，绝大部分人都能奢望至少能活到60岁，同时他们也过上了好日子。当然，新发明仍然在继续问世，但是此时人类又有了重新探索的渴望。这个世界已为人类所了解，可还有其它星球还没有。因此人类又开始寻找进入太空的方式。俄国迈出了第一步，然后是美国。此后，其他国家，包括中国与日本，也都迈开了探索太空的步代。在1969年，人类迈出了离开地球的第一步，美国人首先登上了月球。当然这也只是一个开端，将来某一天，新发明将可以使我们做到我们甚至还未梦想的事情。
