more than 的用法
1. more than后面跟名词，意为“不只是，不仅仅是”。例如：

（1）Hibernation is more than sleep. 冬眠不只是睡觉。

（2）Kate was more than a teacher. She also did what she could to take care of her pupils.

凯特不仅仅是位教师，她还尽其所能照顾她的学生。

2. more than与数词连用，意思是“多于，大于，超过”。例如：

（1）I have known him for more than twenty years. 我认识他已超过二十年了。

（2）More than ten policemen turned up at the spot where the accident happened. 十多位警察出现在出事地点。

3. more than与形容词和分词连用，表示“非常、十分”。例如：

（1）They were more than happy to see us come back from the expedition. 看到我们远征而归，他们异常高兴。

2.  不仅仅是
例：（1）Mary is more than a teather; she is a writer, too.

3. 非常（“more than+形容词”）
例：I assure you I am more than glad to help you. 我向你保证我非常高兴去帮助你。 
4. more than + (that)从句，其基本意义是“超过（=over）”，但可译成“简直不”“远非”.　难以，完全不能（其后通常连用情态动词can）
例：That is more than I can understand .那简直不是我能理解的。（或那超过我的理解。）

not more than 为 more than （多于）的否定式，其意为“不多于”“不超过”。
例句：
（1）This test takes no more than thirtyminutes. 这个测验只要30分钟。
（2）   I have not more than five yuan in mypocket. 我口袋里的钱不多于5元。 
2.  no more…than与not more…than区别
用于比较两件事物时，no more ... than 表示对两者都否定，意为“同……一样不”(＝neither ... nor)；而 not more ... than 指两者虽都具有某种特征，但程度不同，意为“不如”、“不及”(= not so ... as)。如：
（1）He is no more a writer than a painter.
他不是画家，也不是作家(= He is neither a painter nor a writer)
（2）A whale is no more a fish than a horse is.
马不是鱼，鲸也不是鱼(=Neither a horse nor a whale is a fish)。
（3）She is not more clever than he is.
她不如他聪明(= She is not so clever as he is)。
3.  more ….. than ….    是 …… 而不是……
例：The act of memorizing is more of a cognitive exercise than an intuitive one.
记忆更多的是一种认知练习，而不是直觉的练习。
