我同意二楼的观点:这是福尔摩斯中一句经典.但是在没有上下文的前提下,应该这样翻译,才能清晰.
If I were assured of an eventuality I would, in the interests of the public,cheerfully accept the death.

注:这句话要采用虚拟语气.

我想，中文应该是:
”如果你的毁灭确实可以赢得公众的利益，那么,我很乐意迎接死亡！”
If someone's demolishment could bring the benefits to the public in deed, I would pleasently embrace my own death.
