United Nations says current flooding in Pakistan has affected almost 14 million people. The UN says that is more than all the people hurt by the earthquake in Haiti, the 2004 tsunami in South Asia, and the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan. More than 1,600 people have died in the flooding. Aid workers say heavy rains continue to make their work difficult. Six hundred thousand people are trapped in Swat Valley because roads and bridges have washed away. New flooding has now spread to farming areas in Punjab and Sindh provinces. Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani visited Punjab province on Monday. He said the flooding is the worst natural disaster in Pakistan's history.

On Monday, a 74-year-old woman was rescued from under a building in Gansu province. The official Xinhua news agency reports that 137 bodies have been found so far. More than 4,000 soldiers, police, firefighters, and emergency medical workers have been deployed to the area. Floods have killed more than 1,000 people across China this year.

The head of Moscow's Health Department said Monday that nearly 700 people are dying in the capital city every day. People are fleeing the city. More than 104,000 people flew out of Moscow's three airports on Sunday. Many are traveling to popular vacation areas in Egypt and Turkey. Firefighters report some progress in battling some of the worst wildfires in the country's history. More than 500 fires continue to burn in Russia.
[4] A Christian aid group says it has no plans to leave Afghanistan although ten of its members were kidnapped and killed last week. The aid workers were part of a medical team with the International Assistance Mission. The victims were six Americans, two Afghans, one Briton, and one German. The Taliban said its fighters shot and killed the workers. The Taliban said they were spies who were trying to make people change their religion. An Afghan driver in the group survived. Afghan government officials are questioning him. Also in Afghanistan, NATO says a bomb attack killed one service member in the south. NATO also said three Taliban rebels were killed when they attacked NATO positions in the province of Paktia.
[5] Military officials in South Korea say North Korea fired weapons into the Yellow Sea on its west coast Monday. South Korea says the shells came close to the disputed water border between North and South Korea. Also Monday, South Korea demanded that North Korea release a fishing boat and crew seized on Sunday. Tensions in the area have increased sharply since the sinking of a South Korean warship in March. South Korea and several other countries accused North Korea of the sinking. Forty-six South Korean sailors died. North Korea says it was not involved.
