run out & give out

现有两正确的句子：

Time is running out.

Time begins to give out.

查阅牛津字典，发现run out 与give out几乎完全等同。

但是问题是2008 江苏卷

-I'm still working on my project.

-Oh,you'll miss the deadline.Time is （running out）!

此题答案为running out。但是giving out 也在选项中，为何不选？应该都是进行时表将来，有什么问题么？

give out 多指食物、资源、耐心、精力等耗竭，常用过去式、完成式

run out 也有上述意思，但常表示时间的耗竭，用进行时表将来

His patience gave out long ago．他的耐心早已消磨殆尽。

My patience is running out．我已失去耐心。
