People smoke for various reasons. Many people claim that they smoke for the sake of improving their work efficiency, as they feel refreshed and stimulated after smoking. A lot of young people today smoke under the false illusion that smoking is fashionable, cool, and graceful. There are many other people who take smoking as a form of killing time, or venting their anger or frustration. Still others take up their first cigarette just out of curiosity; over time, they find it hard to quit it.
What harm will smoking do to people? Is smoking totally harmful to humans? Or, is it beneficial in some way?
At the very beginning, smokers may feel refreshed, stimulated and feel no harm. But once addicted to it, they suffer a lot from the habit. Cigarette addicts are more likely to develop lung-related illnesses such as pneumonia, bronchitis, lung cancer than non-smokers. Smoking is not only a form of self-battering but also batters those nearby. Non-smokers nearby like family members and colleagues take in the poisonous gas, thus making their health endangered.
