Once safely across,the woman thanked the monk and went on her way. The two monks also continued on to the market,but did not exchange a single word for the remainder of the day. That evening,when they returned to the monastery,the monk who had watched the other carry the woman across the puddle accused his friend of being unfaithful and sacrilegious.
