John Winston Ono Lennon, was born October 9th 1940 in Liverpool England.He was killed December 8th, 1980 in New York.His parents seperated when he was four years old. After that he moved in with his aunt Mimi. His father was a commercial seaman, and his mother died when he was 18. In college years, John met his first wife, Cynthia Powell, with whom he had his son Julian. John divorced Cynthia in 1966, to marry Yoko Ono. Yoko gave birth to John's second son, Sean in 1975.John and Yoko seperated for 14 month from 1972-73. The couple eventually re-united, until John's death in 1980.

John started a band called "Quarry Man" when he was 16. Paul McCartney and George Harrison joined soon after. The band was later renamed into "the Beatles".The first significant work of the Beatles was called "Love Me Do". After that the band release a series of top-of-the-chart songs, the first one being "Please Please Me".The Beatles broke up in 1970, when Paul McCartney announced he is breaking away from the Beatles.

John had always been a left wing social activist. To bring out his view clearer, John released his solo album "Imagine" after the break up of the Beatles. "Imagine" crystalized John's world view and idealism. John took part in many charity work with his second wife, Yoko.

The world was shocked on December 8th 1980, when John Lennon was shot multiple times in the back and was killed. His killer was Mark David Chapman, a young man in his twenties with suspected mental problems. Many had tried to explain John's assassination in many ways. Most commonly believed is the theory that Mark Chapman was but a brainwashed prawn who was programmed to kill Lennon. The mastermind of this assassination was believed to be a number of rigt-wing activiist groups and individuals. Mark Chapman eventually pleaded guilty to the second degree murder charge and was given a sentence of 20 years to life in the Attica Correctional Facility. He remains incarcerated to this date.

In 2002, respondents to a BBC poll on the 100 Greatest Britons voted Lennon into eighth place. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Lennon number 38 on its list of "The Immortals: The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time" and ranked The Beatles at number one.
