Fingerstyle guitar is the technique of playing the guitar by plucking the strings directly with the fingertips, fingernails, or picks attached to fingers, as opposed to flatpicking (plucking individual notes with a single plectrum, commonly called a pick). The term fingerstyle is something of a misnomer, since it is present in several different genres and styles of music—but mostly, because it involves a completely different technique, not just a style of playing, especially for the guitarist's picking/plucking hand.

指弹吉他，相对于使用拨片弹拨个别的音符，是一种通过直接用指尖、指甲或者附着在指甲上的拨片（例如指套）弹奏弦的技术。术语“指弹”其实是个不正确的说法，因为它体现了不同的音乐类型和风格。但基本来说，也因为它包含了所有不同的技巧，“指弹”不只是一种演奏的“风格”，特别对于吉他手的拨（picking）/弹（plucking）的手来说。
也就是说指弹严格来说不是一种正式的风格，而是一种融汇了所有音乐风格从而衍生出来的技术，指弹可以体现任何风格，但又不拘泥于任何风格，是一种无比独特的技术。
