This week is my last week of Chinese studies at Hunan University. As I’m sad that this period of my life is coming to an end I also have some feelings of regret that I didn’t invest more time into my Chinese studies. I feel the shortage of time investment now while studying for my final exams. On the other hand I don’t regret any of the other things I did here when I could have been studying thus bringing us back to the most basic theory of Economics – The Theory of Lacking – we are always and always be in lack of time to do all the things we want. Last week after our last class our teacher Mr. Hu took us all out for lunch at a very nice Korean restaurant.This was one of the best times I've had so far. The restaurant had these kind of hot grills in the middle of each table and there is a waitress whose job is to continuously place the food you ordered on to the grill for you to pick up when you are ready. The food was great and was accompanied by Korean rice wine which was very strong and got everyone drunk in a short period of time. This lunch reminded me of what we have in the Israeli Army at the end of a training period such as basic or advanced training. When you are at the end of the term with the current commander we have what is called a “distance break”. Of course our teachers here are nothing like commanders in the army but there always is somewhat of a teacher-student distance. Once this distance is broken the relationship is closer more like friends or colleagues. When our teacher got drunk with us I felt that the distance was completely broken and we became much closer. I think every foreign student should have a "go out with your teacher and get drunk" class. It can contribute a lot to learning Chinese culture plus its fun! After lunch I had to get back to the office at EngHunan but I later found out that the rest of them went out for some KTV (karaoke) as is traditional in todays Chinese entertainment culture. Unfortunately I missed out on this, but fortunately for you guys I got some photos from one of my classmates from the occasion for you to enjoy. I’m not a big fan posing pictures, but this post has a lot of them so I apologize in advance but what can you do TIC (this is China).
