Red Hat Linux是商业上运作最成功的一个Linux发行套件，普及程度很高，由Red Hat 公司发行。

Red Hat Linux可算是一个“中年”的Linux发行套件，其1.0版本于1994年11月3日发行。虽然其历史不及Slackware般悠久，但比起很多的Linux发行套件，Red Hat 的历史悠久得多。

Red Hat Linux中的RPM软件包格式可以说是Linux社区的一个事实标准，被广泛使用于其他Linux发行套件中。

以Red Hat Linux为基础派生的Linux发行套件有很多，其中包括以桌面用户为目标的Mandrake Linux（原为包含KDE的Red Hat Linux），Yellow Dog Linux（开始时为支援PowerPC的Red Hat Linux）和 ASPLinux （对非拉丁字符有较好支援的Red Hat Linux）。

自从Red Hat 9.0版本发布后，Red Hat公司就不再开发桌面版的Linux发行套件，而将全部力量集中在服务器版的开发上，也就是 Red Hat Enterprise Linux版。2004年4月30日，Red Hat公司正式停止对Red Hat 9.0版本的支援，标志著Red Hat Linux的正式完结。原本的桌面版Red Hat Linux发行套件则与来自民间的Fedora计划合并，成为Fedora Core发行版本。参考资料：https://wiki.biti.org.cn/wiki/Red_Hat_Linux

Red Hat Linux was a popular Linux distribution assembled by Red Hat until the early 2000s, when it was discontinued.
It is one of the "middle-aged" Linux distributions; 1.0 was released in November 3, 1994. It is not as old as Slackware, but certainly older than many other distributions. It was the first Linux distribution to use RPM as its packaging format, and over time has served as the starting point for several other distributions, such as the desktop-oriented Mandriva Linux (originally under the name "Mandrake", which started as Red Hat Linux with KDE), Yellow Dog Linux (which started from Red Hat Linux with PowerPC support), and ASPLinux (Red Hat Linux with better non-Latin character support).
Since 2003, Red Hat has discontinued the Red Hat Linux line in favor of its new Red Hat Enterprise Linux for enterprise environments and Fedora Core for the free version. Red Hat Linux 9, the final release, hit its official end-of-life on April 30, 2004, although updates were published for it through 2006 by the Fedora Legacy project until that shut down.
