The Snow Leopard (雪豹） is a large cat native to the mountain ranges of central and southern Asia.
Well known for its beautiful fur, the Snow Leopard has a soft grey coat with ringed spots and small dots of black on brown. The fur turns white in the winter. Because their fur command a very high price in the fur market, during the 1960s, the Snow Leopard's total population went down to 1,000 animals, but has since recovered slightly. The total estimated wild population of the Snow Leopard is between 3,500 and 7,000 individuals (see table below). In addition, there are 600-700 animals in zoos around the

Eventually, a conservation plan was put in place that led to the capture of all the remaining wild condors in 1987 for captive breeding and later reintroducing back to the wild. The project is the most expensive species conservation project ever undertaken in the United States. The California Condor is currently one of the world's rarest bird species. As of 2005, there were only 273 individuals.
