Sunlen Miller takes a look at the Christmas splendor inside the White House.
At the White House, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
"Welcome to the White House and happy holidays."
And it takes an awful lot to deck these halls: eight hundred ornaments, five hundred hydrangea stems and even a four-hundred-pound replica of the White House made out of gingerbread and white chocolate. The White House garden and even First Dog Bo Obama got a spot made out of marzipan.
"Reflect, Rejoice and Renew" is a theme this year chosen by the First Lady.
"For the Obama family, Christmas and the New Year has always been a time to
reflect on our many blessings, to rejoice in the pleasure of spending time with our family and our friends, and to renew our commitment to one another and to the causes that we believe in."
Yet even with the White House-size celebration, this year's decorations have been scaled back, more minimal and simple than years past. Reflecting the hard economic times, ornaments were taken out of storage and redecorated by individual states. And in an effort to go green, the Christmas tree featured environmentally sound LED light.
