An article with the title “Climate change and pollution are killing millions, says study“, written by John Vidal, an environment editor, claimed that it is the climate changes and it is the pollution that kill millions of people.
Despite of the accuracy of the study, let’s talk about the title first. Author has put down the title as “so and so, says study”. He meant to tell the readers that whatever shown in this paper is not my opinion. It is from the World Bank Report. Sure enough, he put down the title for himself as “environment editor”. Based on this circumstance, he does not want to take the credit. And he does not want to take the blame either.
This article has included several “sayings” that are quoted from the World Bank Report. Some of them are
. 1.8 million deaths a year due to diarrhea, mostly among children under five,
. Indoor/outdoor pollution causes 800K premature deaths,
. minute particles released by smoky fires kills 1.6 million a year.
For those quoted texts, without having the correspondent data and evidence, it is hard to tell whether the saying is true or not or how accurate they would be.
Further more, this article uses tsunami as an example to conclude the whole article. It has nothing to do with whatever been stated in the article before.
So, to conclude the reading summary for this article, the editor of this article just grab some sayings from a Report and throw in some filling words and came out an article like this.
We should pay attention to the pollution. And we should give hands to poor area and help them to improve their quality of life. However, as citizens of a modern world, we should conduct deeper and clearer research to the problem that we’re facing.
