where和that的用法、区别，怎么区分，有什么技巧吗

He wants to live in a hotel （） he can do some indoor activities。
l will never forget the city （）we visited last year。
第一句能不能用that？如果不能又为什么？that后面能不能加完整的句子？ 这两个词到底应该怎样区分，有什么很好的方法和技巧吗？

where和that引导限制性定语从句时，都常用来修饰表示地点的名词，但如果前面的名词是表示地点（定语从句中的动词动作所发生的地点）时，用where；如果该名词（先行词）作定语从句中动词的宾语时，则使用that。如：

I know of a place where we can have fun. 我知道一个我们可以玩得开心的地方。(a place表示地点，作状语，即：we can have fun in some place)

Is there a shop around where we can buy fruit? 附近有什么商店可以买到水果吗？(a shop就是地点，说明buy fruit的地方，作状语)

He bought the factory that he visited last year. 他买下了他去年参观过的那家工厂。（the factory就是visited的宾语，表示参观的对象）

同时，where也可引导非限制性定语从句，而习惯上that则不能这样使用。如：

They have gone to Beijing, where they will stay for a week. 他们到北京去了，将在那里待一周。

一般做地点名词的定语从句的引导词是where that在句中不翻译

第一句不可以用that ， hotel 是做室内活动的地点，where 是关系副词，指代hotel 的where在从句中作地点状语。 that是关系代词，不可表示地点状语。

He wants to live in a hotel （where） he can do some indoor activities. =He wants to live in a hotel in which he can do some indoor activities. =He wants to live in a hotel which he can do some indoor activities in. =He wants to live in a hotel (and) he can do some indoor activities (in the hotel). 2. l will never forget the city （that）we visited last year. = l will never forget the city we visited last year. = we visited the city last year, (and) l will never forget it. 以上两个句子都是含定语从句的复合句。 定语从句与主句之间的关系就是“同时含有同一个名词，且在从句中，该名词被替代，以关系代词和关系副词的形式放在先行词之后（从句之前，作为引导词）”。 第一句不能用that,是因为从句中缺的不只是一个名词，而是一个介词加名词的地点状语。 that后面如果是定语从句就不能加完整的句子；that后面如果加了完整的句子，就是名词性从句。
