The study of intercultural business communication is steadily becoming important in the present move towards international business and globalisation. In light of this move, the University of Central Lancashire is pleased to offer an MA in Intercultural Business Communication.

You may be a recent graduate who has aspirations to work for a multi-national company in your country on completion of this degree. At the end of the programme, you will have acquired a high level of knowledge and skills in areas related to intercultural business communication. Hence, you will be someone who is able to communicate effectively across cultures and have a strong interest in widening and applying your skills in intercultural business situations. However, if students already possess some work experience in a multicultural or international context, they will also be able to raise their knowledge and skills in the area of intercultural business communication. After your degree, you may also be interested in researching a particular aspect of intercultural business communication at MPhil/PhD level.

Since you will have to communicate with people from various cultures, your main goal is to prevent or minimise, as much as possible, cultural misunderstandings. These misunderstandings can affect the smooth running of a company and business transactions.

The modules in the programme train participants to link theories related to various aspects of intercultural communication to practice. They enable students to critically examine what they have learnt during their programme in work-based placements in the UK.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment
Students will receive input from a mixture of lectures, seminars and workshops. A student-centred approach is emphasised in the teaching and learning process.

We use a variety of assessment procedures including essays, portfolios, presentations, projects and examinations. The assessment methods and criteria we use are linked to the learning outcomes specified for each module. At the end of the diploma, students will conduct a research project on an aspect of intercultural business communication they are interested in.

Career opportunities
This degree will be of interest to those wishing to work in careers related to, or have already worked, in international business and management contexts.

Detailed Entry Requirements
To join the programme, you usually have one of the following degrees:

- A first or upper second-class honours
- higher degree in Arts or Social Science from a recognised university.

Students whose first language is not English are required to pass either the TOEFL (A minimum of 600-pbt or 250 cbt) and TWE 4.5 OR IELTS (a minimum of 6.0) language test.
