I could answer the question;
Normally for LIBS applications,at the laser side,the keypoint is peak power density(MW/cm2),or energy density(J/cm2);
So any pulsed lasers which could offer the necessary peak power to breakdown the sample would be ok for LIBS;
Your question...why to apply 1064,it because Nd:YAG laser with fundamental output would be the choice which have the best cost performance,because Nd:YAG pulsed laser is very very mature technology;
Of course you also could choose other harmonic generation(HG) of YAG,e.g.532,355,266,213;and nitrogen laser(337),excimer laser(157/193/248/308/351),Nd:glass laser,ultrafast lasers would also possible be good choice for LIBS,but perhaps would be more expensive,or much more expensive.

Of course from the other side the more important key point for LIBS is high resolution &broadband scanning free ,spectroscopy with time management at nanosecond level.
